Straight Talk: Thriving In Business

The anthem for an entrepreneur should be the timeless Bachman Turner Overdrive tune, Takin’ Care of Business. If you don’t remember it, ask Alexa or Siri to play it. She will, and she will enjoy it. You’ll be dancing, I guarantee, but if you listen to the words, you’ll get a suspicion that maybe the personal and professional development legends of the past, somehow implanted success suggestions into the music.

“And I'll be taking care of business (every day)
Taking care of business (every way)
I've been taking care of business (it's all mine)
Taking care of business and working overtime, workout”

Really, that about says it all. That’s the reality of being in business today. You must take care of business, every day and in every way. If you’re a business owner or an entrepreneur, you have the extra burden of knowing that “It’s all mine!” You are the final bastion of success or failure. You have the keys to the car. What happens to your business is directly in proportion to your mindset. The work, the pressure, the finances, and all the details are all yours.

And it’s not easy.

That’s why this book is here. Over the years, I have consistently written blogs and articles about my ongoing experiences in the battleground of business. Sometimes, my experiences were with large businesses, sometimes small, boot-strapped business. The lessons I write about were from great successes I have had, or my clients have had, while others are about the abject failures I endured. Either way, in most cases, I was smart enough to stop and tell myself, “This is a lesson. This is a lesson. This is a lesson.”

My purpose in becoming a business coach was to share those lessons with clients, groups, and audiences. All with the hope I could make a life or lives somehow better. I want to help people make more money, be happier at work, spend more quality time with their families, and just live their best possible lives instead of living in acceptance of mediocrity.

This book is divided into categories to make it easier to pick and choose a section to read that might be most applicable to your situation. Be prepared though. I do not pull punches. There is not a lot of theory here. Every page is a glimpse from lessons learned from raw-boned experience, from being on the street, winning some and losing some, but learning and growing every day.

Taking care of business!
