What’s Next?

I am a big dreamer. I always have been. However, our world has far exceeded even my dreams. It wasn’t that long ago, actually less than ten years ago, that I saved my money to buy technology and other “stuff” I thought I needed. I bought GPS systems; a digital watch; digital voice recorders, a digital camera; a video player; video camera; music player; a videogame console; an encyclopedia; a medical library; video conferencing; pagers; beepers; Blackberry; calendars; recipe books; calculator; flashlight; cell phone; maps and more.

Today I have all of that and more in a single device, my phone. I can also buy movie tickets; look at the weather radar; go shopping, and start my car with one device. So it’s not fair to call your cell phone a cell phone. It’s so much more.

So, what’s next? So far, everything that we’ve seen in sci-fi television and movies in the past has become a reality. Remember Star Trek and their wireless communicators? Many of us are still in awe of the technological advancements we’ve seen in our lifetime. But, at the same time, many younger people simply expect it.

But that, in itself, is dangerous.

When we expect miracles, miracles cease to happen. When we wait in expectation of technology, we lose our ability to think and dream. We leave innovation up to someone else. If you’re reading this and in business in any form, you must innovate and constantly search for improvements and ways to grow to survive in today’s world. One of my most inciteful mentors gave me some timeless advice. He said, “If you continue to do business the way you’ve always done business, someday soon, you’ll be out of business.”

I am excited to tell you that we have no idea what is next in technology and innovation. It is safe to say that what’s coming will be things that we can’t even imagine. We cannot control what’s coming, so sit back and enjoy the ride. However, we can influence our own attitudes, mindsets, and future. In his masterpiece “Think and Grow Rich, ” Napoleon Hill said it best: “Whatever Your Mind Can Conceive and Believe, It Can Achieve.”

So, enjoy this wild and miraculous world where we live and the fabulous things it will offer us, our children, and our grandchildren. But remember that you have a say in your future as well. It all comes down to believing in yourself and your possibilities.

And your possibilities are unlimited!
